I encountered this and found the answer here, but I would also note that my system has xtightvncviewer rather than just vncviewer. Executing the command in a terminal automatically changes the selection, but if you’re looking for it in Synaptic Package manager, it will be xtightvncviewer you want to install.
Following installation, everything worked fine.
